*Well,I Have Good News & I Have Bad News*
The following message is from District Ranger Robert Lee of the Chickasawhay District, Desoto National Forest (most people know the area referred to as the enduro trails near Ovett, MS).  I had proposed having an enduro on a part the trail system which has not been used for a SERA event since 2003 as a means to give us an opportunity to work with the Chickasawhay District & attempt to see if we can all get along, among other things.  After the enduro in Florida was added to the SERA Schedule, I sort of eased off on the strong desire to put on an enduro in South Mississippi in September.  The fact that the District Personnel feel that they can not accommodate my request could be viewed as 'bad news,' but on the bright side, there's always the Tallahassee Trailriders' enduro a few weeks later.  And the few of us who would be involved are spared the misery of trying to prepare for an enduro on the fast-track timeline that we did in September, 2001.  I seem to have gotten old since then...   The good news should be evident to everyone :  Ranger Lee is interested in working on a plan to preserve the trails that quite recently appeared to be in danger of disappearing forever.  It's not a pot of gold, but we appear to be in a position to do something positive for the future of our sport if enough of us are willing to get onboard.  The opportunity appears to be there for anyone who is interested.  What more can I say ???   Further developments will be posted here as they come to pass.   Fred Pittman, President Mississippi Hi-Point Enduro Riders

I enjoyed our visit Fred and I look forward to working with you in the future.  Your proposal for a September 25th event is too short of a notice for our review and consideration at this time...perhaps we could consider this request with an alternate date in mind...we need just a little more lead time.    Also, we have another event that same weekend (Horse Riding Event).

During our meeting at Shoney's, I expressed to you that it seems appropriate to bring all the players to the table, including the casual motorcycle riders, atv riders, enduro riders, hikers, mtn. bikers etc. and look at both a short and long range approach.    If we get all interested parties together and collectively come up with some reasonable alternatives for potential future opportunities for this area....this approach has worked best in the past as was the case in TN (Cherokee NF)  that I mentioned to you during our meeting.    There are several advantages to this approach.

If this is acceptable to you, then let me know who the key folks are from the enduro side of things and I can get the other players together. Perhaps you and I can work together to develop an agenda to facilitate this meeting.       What are your thoughts?

Thanks Fred!
